Does not deserve a 4/5, it's always 1-2ft less than the forecasts say, inconsistant, shifting sandbars give little shape to waves.
Philip Wright, Saltburn
It has good peaks on both sides of the pier and in front of the river, excellent right on reef but rarely works. It is usually a bit smaller and cleaner than the rest of the area and has a relaxed atmosphere and a great surf shop. Call 09068 545543 for report.
Nigel Sanderson, Middlesbrough
Good waves in spring, autumn and winter It usually has long flat spells in summer, the beach gets good and theres a superb right hand point break in front of the cliffs which gets hollow.
Ledge, Cleveland
This is my local break. There is a good surf scene here as it is one of the best places in the area when it works. An excellent shop that sells and hires boards and suits and also offers tuition. Some major comps are also held here see Nick and Gary in the shop for all your surfing needs.
Dunk, Middlesbrough
Fair enough it is cold, dirty and the like but of all the places I personally have surfed around Wales, Devon, and Cornwall etc, it is the friendliest less attitudinal place by far. Actually not that bad a wave either.
Stephen Street, Saltburn
Always 1-2 total rubbish. I have been to Saltburn a few times and seen some great waves, Saltburn can hold a nice swell, even when the forcasts say its gonna be flat. Nice and friendly, great waves, what more can I say. Quality 5/5
Zip, Manchester
It takes swell from NW to SE. Can hold upt 8-10ft, though rarely gets so big. It works at all stages of the tide. Penny's has sucky lefts at low tide. Saltburn is great at 4-6ft. Relaxed atmosphere absoluterly love it.
